The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has planned an imminent election in the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on July 4 and has appointed former Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir Mahesh Mittal Kumar as returning officer.
Elections will be held at the special general meeting of the WFI.
“The IOA shall take steps forward to hold elections to the WFI Executive Committee and we are pleased to appoint you as a returning officer to conduct the WFI elections. You are very much considering hiring an Assistant Returning Officer and other staff to assist in the conduct of the elections,” the IOA wrote in its letter to Justice Mittal Kumar.
“The election will have to be held at WFI’s SGM called July 4th and the election schedule will have to be drawn accordingly.
“We look forward to confirming your acceptance and having the WFI election run smoothly on July 4th.” However, the sources said that Justice Mittal Kumar can schedule the AGM and elections himself and it will be up to him to conduct the poll on July 4 or a few days later.
On April 27, the IOA formed an ad hoc three-member committee under the direction of the Ministry of Sports and two members were announced to run the day-to-day affairs of the federation.
