Amidst the wave of cybercrime in Gurgaon, the 25-year-old son of a retired court judge who received a phone call then “fainted” when he saw a woman undressing on Sunday, police said.

Police said the man, who is a lawyer, received a phone call at around 9.30 am on Sunday when he was at his father’s office in Sector 17 in Gurgaon.

The complaint filed by his father stated that at around 9:30 pm, he was sitting in the office attached to their residence with his son when he received a video call from an unknown number. “He made the video call in my presence, and a girl appeared and started undressing on the screen. My son fainted upon seeing him and turned away from the screen but that woman started sending obscene pictures and started blackmailing him by forwarding messages saying she would post the pictures on his Facebook and Instagram accounts. My son started Immediately after receiving obscene photos and videos. My son started fapping and received another WhatsApp call from an unknown number,” the complaint states.

He added in the complaint that “some unscrupulous elements may damage his reputation and may hack the mobile phone number to extort money.”

The police said they have registered an FIR against unknown persons based on the complaint under Section 67a of the Information Technology Act and Section 292 of the IPC at the Sector 18 Police Station. The perpetrators have not been caught, and we are trying to find the perpetrators. Several such cases have come to light, and the Cybercrime Police have been trying to spread awareness about such calls and scams over the past few months. Many people complain of a rise in extortion calls.”
In May, Gurgaon Police launched a campaign called #GiveBackToGurugram to tackle cybercrime and raise awareness.
