Due to work remaining on a 200-meter loop on the ashram bridge span, which stretches from Sarai Kali Khan to south and southeast Delhi, commuters are left battling traffic jams.

The loop – which was supposed to be completed by the first week of June – provides connectivity from Sarai Kale Khan for those heading towards Lajpat Nagar and parts of south and southeast Delhi, including those coming from Ghaziabad and Noida.

The Ashram flyover span has six lanes and two ramps – one going towards Sarai Kali Khan and the other going up the flyover from the side of the ring road.

Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Atishi said last month that an under-construction loop would be completed within a week.

While visiting the site, it was found that the slope works were almost complete, but the bituminous layer had not yet been applied to the surface of the approach road. Building materials were found at the site but no work was in progress. The side wall was also constructed but the extension was fortified with concrete blocks.

A PWD official said, “The work is a little delayed but has not stopped. It is fortified to do black work. It will be completed by the end of this week.”

Once work on the ring is complete, the Ashram flyover will be free of signs and will also facilitate traffic on the ring road.

The incomplete part also affects travelers traveling from ITO, Noida, Ghaziabad and northern parts of the city, as they have to take the Maharani Bagh stretch to reach South Delhi. This also leads to heavy congestion on the ring road.
