Deputy Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena has adopted four more villages to be developed as model villages, complete with civic and health infrastructure among other amenities, said LG House officials.

The officials said Saxena took the decision in this sense after “positive results” in the direction achieved in Kotapgarh village, northwest Delhi. They added that Nizampur and Jaunti in Kanjhawala district as well as Rawta and Deorala in Kapashera will be included in the list of model villages adopted by LG.

“These villages will also be developed with ample civil infrastructure, (emphasis on) heritage preservation, livelihood opportunities, scientific management of livestock, health care, proper land use and water management among others,” said an LG House official. The officials added that issues related to gender, agriculture and other issues would be addressed on a priority basis in these villages as in Qutbgarh.

According to the 2011 census, the population of Nizambur and Jonti is about 6,000 to 7,000 and 8,000 to 9,000 respectively, while Rota and Deural are about 2,933 and 524, respectively.

The initiatives to develop Qutbgarh as a model village began in September 2022 with the planting of 1,000 sandalwood seedlings by 500 farmers. Saxena visited Qutubgarh on April 13 this year and distributed 2,000 guavas and 1,000 grape seedlings to the residents.

Currently underway in Qutabgarh, officials at LG House said initiatives include upgrading the MCD dispensary into a multi-speciality clinic, setting up a post office, introducing science stream in the local government school as well as developing two ponds and four new public parks among others.
