Newly crowned NBA finalist Nikola Jokic isn’t sure if he’ll be able to attend Thursday’s Denver Nuggets championship show. It looks like Jokic has already planned his off-season, and that includes horse racing.

In an appearance on NBA TV’s postgame coverage, Jokic was asked how he looked after the tournament parade. He said he wanted to go home as soon as possible, because he didn’t want to miss the horse race on Sunday.

“On Sundays, I have horse races,” Jokic said. “I don’t know how we’ll get there (on time). Thursday, parade. Friday, maybe.”

Steve Smith then went on to ask if he’d make it to Sombor, Serbia, on Sunday before Jokic joked he might ask team boss Josh Kroenke if he could use the team plane.

“I don’t know. I’m going to ask Josh to give me a ride. I’m putting him under pressure. I don’t feel bad about it.”

“On Sundays I have horse races” ☠️ Even after being crowned champion, the Joker is worried about only one thing 🤣🏇

With all the things Nikola Jokic has done for the Denver Nuggets, which now includes an NBA championship, Kroneks probably wouldn’t mind loaning him the team jet to get there in time to watch Sunday’s horse race.

It’s no secret that, after his family and basketball, horses are the most important things to Nikola Jokic. The two-time MVP loves them so much that he thought he might be able to carve out a career in them before he took basketball seriously.

In an interview with The Athletic’s Nick Kosmider in 2020, Jokic explained that he developed his love of horses at an early age. He loves being around them, and his colleagues have noted that he is at his calmest when talking about horses.

“I was probably 12 or 13 when I got into it,” Jokic said. “My dad took me to a horse race in our town. We went to the race, and I said, ‘I’m kind of like that… I just enjoy being around them and seeing their different characteristics.'” “You can tell when they figured out that they’re basically like us. They’re athletic and runners. They’re amazing creatures.”

Before Game 5 of the NBA Finals, Jokic told ESPN’s Malika Andrews of his plans to buy a new horse. The Joker already owns more than half a dozen horses back home in Serbia.

One of his horses is called Dream Catcher and he has won many races over the years. One of the Dream Catcher’s awards, a red ribbon, is proudly displayed next to Jokic’s locker room in Denver.
