IndiGo said in its statement that its flight 6E-6183 operating from Kolkata to Delhi suffered a tail strike while landing in Delhi.

A senior DGCA official said on Tuesday that the Indigo plane suffered a tail strike upon arrival at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on June 11, prompting the aviation safety regulator DGCA to order an investigation into the accident.

The official said the airline had also grounded the operating crew on the orders of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

In a statement, IndiGo confirmed the accident.

“On June 11, an A321Neo Indigo while operating Delhi-bound Flight 6E-6183 from Kolkata was involved in an air strike while landing in Delhi,” the official said.

The DGCA official said the flight was uneventful until the approaching landing in Delhi, however, while approaching runway 27, the crew felt they had been hovering longer than usual and proceeded to wander.

During a spinning maneuver, the bottom of the plane’s tail touched the runway surface and sustained damage, according to the official, who added that the operating crew were taken off the list pending investigation.

In its statement, IndiGo said its flight 6E-6183 operating from Kolkata to Delhi suffered a tail strike while landing in Delhi.

However, the airline did not disclose how many passengers were on board the ill-fated plane.

She added that it was announced that the plane had landed in Delhi to conduct the necessary assessment and repairs, adding that the accident is under investigation by the relevant authorities.
