The Standing Committee of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation on Tuesday approved the electric vehicle policy for three-wheeled auto rickshaws. PCMC is offering a subsidy of up to 30,000 rupees for the conversion of CNG-powered cars into electric vehicles.

“The electric vehicle policy for rickshaws has been passed in the Standing Committee meeting today,” PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh told The Indian Express. Singh presided over the meeting.
The PCMC chairman, who is also the civil officer, said, “PCMC is giving up to Rs 30,000 subsidy for cars with batteries, and a grant of Rs 15,000 for cars without batteries.

In fact, we are matching the scholarship given by the state government which is Rs 30,000. The center is also offering a similar grant of Rs 30,000 for auto rickshaws to convert from compressed natural gas into electric vehicles.”

Singh said they are initially providing support for the first 1,500 motorized vehicles. “The scheme will then be expanded to include other cars,” he said.
