Khokha Police has arrested two other people from a Project Management Consulting Company (PMC) in the dock due to the dilapidated condition of the Hatkeshwar Bridge.

Pravinbhai Desai (62) and Bahilalbhai Pandya (65), who were working as team leader and coordinator with SGS India Private Limited – a PMC accused of criminal breach of trust, fraud and criminal conspiracy, were arrested from Ahmedabad.

Pandya was arrested on 12 June and sent to police remand until 19 June, while Desai was arrested on 10 June and is in police remand until 14 June.

“As the team leader and coordinator, the two were responsible for the immediate supervision of the bridge. They were responsible for keeping records of all comers, supervising day-to-day operations, who visited on behalf of AMC during the ongoing project, inspecting the source of materials used, etc.,” said an inspector. Khokhra A.Y. Patel Police.

A police official said that Pandya lost his son by suicide a few months ago and has not yet been arrested on humanitarian grounds.

Last month, police arrested four directors of Ajay Engi-Infrastructure Private Limited (AEIPL), the company that secured the bid and contract for the Hatkeshwar Bridge, which was damaged within four years of being opened to the public.

One of the accused, Rasik Ambalal Patel is “wanted”, while two other accused – directors of SGS India Private Limited Amit Thakkar and Shashibhushan Jogani – have the help of the Supreme Court in their favor as the court has ordered that no coercive action be taken against them, Patel said.
