Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday alleged that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Man’s insistence on changing the naming of Ayushman Bharat Health Centers to Human general clinics It was costing the state around Rs 800 crore.

In a written statement released on Friday, Akali leader Iqbal Singh Gundan said, “The situation was such that the Community Health Centers (CHCs), Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and Sub-Hospitals in Sangrur PM district were in dire straits. It is appalling that they have stopped Most of the centers and hospitals for night services due to lack of staff.”

In his statement, Gundan said, “The situation was the same elsewhere in the state as well, with a shortage of funds resulting in healthcare centers being deprived of even basic facilities for patients. The Aam Admi clinics, which were opened with great fanfare by the Chief Minister, resulted in an almost complete collapse.” Even many hospitals that used to treat emergency patients during the night refuse treatment because staff from the same hospital have been transferred to Aam Admi clinics.”

Gundan asserted that the root cause of this situation was the rebranding of the rural dispensaries into Aam Aadmi Clinics, “The first crores (of rupees) were spent renaming the health facilities which included the Prime Minister’s photos being plastered on them. This was followed by a multi-crore advertising campaign to deceive the Punjabis.”

The SAD leader added, “The after-effects of this self-glorification campaign has resulted in the state being deprived of Rs 800 crore under the National Health Mission. The state has lost an additional Rs 2,800 crore due to misuse of central schemes.”
