Pune Rural Police has arrested three minors for allegedly killing a 36-year-old fruit vendor after he was found brutally hacked to death in Sinhagad Road area on Monday morning.
Some locals in Gosavi Vasti district on Sinhagad Road found a dead body lying in the bushes next to a canal and alerted the police. The deceased has been identified as Rahul Chandrakant Atoll, a fruit seller who lives in the same area.
The preliminary investigation indicated a homicide with three puncture wounds to the victim’s head. Four investigative teams are set up to work out the various clues available about the murder. Inspector Sachin Wangde, in charge of the Haveli police station, said, “Our investigation revealed that the murder was the result of an old rivalry between some local youths and the victim.
Police detained two 17-year-old minors from Welhi district of Pune district on Monday night, and another minor from Osmanabad district, where he fled to after the murder, on Tuesday. They said the suspects used a large machete to inflict deep cuts on Atul’s head.
Inspector Wangdi said the police have brought the three minors before the Juvenile Justice Board for further action.
