To arouse suspicions about the accident, the girl’s parents asked the police to check the place where she fell, after which the police searched the area.

Police said on Thursday that a female student at Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technology (RGUKT), popularly known as IIIT Basar, in Telangana’s Nirmal district, died after “accidentally falling” from a building.

The incident comes two days after the death of a female student who committed suicide at the same institute.

The girl, a first-year Pre-University Course (PUC) student at the institute and a native of Sidibet district, was suspected dead after “accidentally falling” from the fourth floor of a campus hostel building on the intervening Wednesday night. Thursday, the police said.

They said that the security personnel, after noticing that the female student was lying unconscious, initially took her to a hospital in Bhinsa town, and from there she was transferred to another hospital in Nirmal town, where doctors declared her dead.

To arouse suspicions about the accident, the girl’s parents asked the police to check the place where she fell, after which the police searched the area.

The parents also told police that, in view of exams the next day, their daughter was listening to lessons on a video-sharing platform on her mobile phone and may have “accidentally fallen” from the building. The university authorities confirmed the same.

Accordingly, a case has been registered under Article 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (suspicious death), according to a senior police official.

The official said that according to the preliminary investigation, (the death) is accidental, but it is not conclusive, adding that the cause of death (accidental or suicide) can only be ascertained after obtaining the autopsy report and based on further investigations.

The official added that an autopsy was carried out and the body was handed over to the girl’s family.

Police said that on June 13, a female student in the first pre-university course of the institute was found hanging in the bathroom on the university campus.
