The Mumbai Congress will hold programs under the name ‘Mohabbat ki Dukan’ on June 19 – to celebrate party leader Rahul Gandhi’s birthday – in each of the city’s 227 wards. During the programme, party workers will interact with people from each wing to discuss and find a solution to the problems they are facing.

Announcing the decision, the newly elected Congress President and Dharavi MLA Varsha Gaikwad said, “Our leader Rahul Gandhi marched in the Bharat Jodo Yatra with a message to unite the country. We will celebrate his birthday on June 19 in every ward of Mumbai by establishing ‘Mohabbat ki Dukan.’ Our workers will run Discussions with people in these wards about people’s issues. We will understand it and try to solve it.” She was speaking at a rally organized to mark her assumption of the position of head of the city unit.

Gaikwad is the first female speaker of the Mumbai Congress. Gaikwad, in her speech, acknowledged the work done by all the previous presidents of the Mumbai unit and in an effort to overcome the infighting within the party, gave the slogan ‘Hum Sab Ek Hai’. Over the course of one week, since the announcement, Gaikwad has met with all the senior leaders of the party as well as ex-Mumbai unit chiefs, Lok Sabha MPs, Congress MLAs.

“I know I have a very big responsibility. But my responsibility is to win the party in the Lok Sabha, the assembly and corporate polls,” she said.
