The woman and her five children had fallen asleep after dinner while her husband, Navami, was sleeping outside in the heat when the fire started.

Police said Thursday that a 38-year-old woman and her five children died in a fire that broke out at their home in this area. They said the accident occurred late Wednesday night in Orda village.

Sangeeta and her five children were trapped inside the house when a fire broke out while they were sleeping. Police said that after getting information about the accident, a firefighting team arrived at the scene, put out the flames and removed the six family members who had already died.

Kushinagar DM and SP also reached the place on the same night. After all the bodies were sent for an autopsy, the police said, an investigation into the matter was ordered.

Police said the cause of the fire has been confirmed. Sangeeta’s children, who also died in the fire, are identified as Ankit (10), Laksmina (9), Rita (3), Geeta (2) and Babu (1).

Police added that DM Ramesh Ranjan who visited the village with SP Dhawal Jaiswal had declared compensation of Rs 4 lakh to each of the relatives of the deceased and ordered an investigation into the cause of the accident.
