Talking about the ongoing unrest, he said that it is not a conflict between communities, but rather a conflict between the state government and illegal immigrants, as well as anti-social elements that promote violence and hate.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Thursday emphasized the urgency of the public to refrain from obstructing security convoys in the streets.

Speaking to the media at his secretariat in Imphal, the Prime Minister said that such measures have caused significant obstacles and delays in the timely arrival of reserve units, which has severely affected the confrontation of militants targeting civilians in the surrounding areas.

The Prime Minister expressed concern over the recent incident in Khamenluk, where at least nine people were killed and many homes were set on fire, and condemned the violence.

He announced the start of combing operations in 41 Hill Districts and 38-39 Wadi Districts to catch all those involved.

He added that six explosive devices were found as part of these operations.

The Prime Minister also assured the public that strong action will be taken against the terrorists responsible for the brutal killings in Khamenluk.

Addressing the ongoing unrest, he said it is not a conflict between communities, but rather a conflict between the state government and illegal immigrants, as well as anti-social elements that promote violence and hate. In this regard, he called on the public to focus on destabilizing these elements and not give in to spreading rumors that contributed to fomenting more violence and undermining trust within the Manipuri community.

In response to reports of some individuals involved in illegal buying and selling of abandoned land, the Prime Minister assured that the government would strictly enforce the ML and LR Act 1960.

He reassured the public that the abandoned lands and homes of the displaced cannot be claimed by anyone, as the security forces are actively guarding them.

Regarding the comments from CSOs present in Mizoram, Perrin urged the government of Mizoram to exercise control over it, stating that its participation does not entitle it to self-determination of Manipur.

Regarding the demands for separate administration by ten legal aid agencies, including ministers, he said the government is handling the issue with a conciliatory mindset, seeking mutual understanding, as it is a political matter.

However, he categorically declared that the integrity of Manipur would not be compromised under any circumstances.

The Prime Minister also revealed plans to extend the curfew period from 5 am to 6 pm, allowing normal activities to be gradually resumed and schools to reopen from 21 June, if possible.

The state level peace committee chaired by the governor has also started consultations with its members to expedite the restoration of peace, assuring the public that all necessary measures are being taken by ministers and MLAs, who are engaged in talks with various stakeholders.

The Cabinet finally sought the support and co-operation of the public to bring about an early restoration of peace in Manipur.

The press conference was also attended by Rajya Sabha member Lichamba Sanagopa, ministers and MLAs.
