“On the night of June 13, Anik Pal performed his prayers at home and then embraced his wife before shooting her. The same bullet hit Anik Pal’s body in the chest and crossed his back. Both were wounded. She was taken to hospital but did not survive.”
Police officials said that a couple died with a single bullet fired by the husband who hugged his wife closely in a bizarre accident in Moradabad district of western Uttar Pradesh state.
The husband, Anik Pal, was about 40 years old and his wife, Suman Pal, was about 38 years old. According to the police, the couple left behind four children – a daughter and three sons.
They said that both of them were working in Chandigarh as day laborers and had gone back to their original home in Moradabad.
Superintendent of Police (Rive Muradabad) Sandeep Kumar said the incident took place at the couple’s house in Khanpur village under the boundaries of Bellary Police Station on the intervening night of June 13-14.
Relatives, acquaintances, and children of the couple told the police that the husband and wife often quarreled over various issues. Lately, they have been fighting a lot.
On the night of June 13, Ank Bal performed his prayers at home and then embraced his wife before she was shot. The same bullet hit Annick Pal’s body in the chest and crossed his back. “Both of them were shot and taken to hospital, but they did not survive,” Kumar said.
Police said they had not received any complaints from relatives of the dead couple, whose quarrel escalated in the past week since Suman lost his mobile phone during a wedding.
Ankit Kumar, Police Department (Billary District) officer, told PTI that the firearm used in the incident was a country-made weapon and investigation is underway to find out how it was obtained.
On suspicion of the husband practicing occultism before the incident, the officer said that an investigation is under way to ascertain this.
Asked about the custody of the couple’s four children, Kumar said, “Now the children are at their home in the village. Their maternal relatives have called the police to book them. The matter will be looked into in detail and further decision will be taken as per the rules.”
