Gadkari stated that when he criticized a nationalist leader who had good relations with Savarkar, he told the leader that no one should criticize Savarkar without knowing about him.

The leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was speaking at the launch of the book “Veer Savarkar” here on Saturday.

Gadkari said it was unfortunate that the person (Savarkar) and his family who gave everything for the country had to face the insults. Savarkar noted that Hindutva is inclusive and free from sectarianism and sectarianism.

“Savarkar was a social reformer, a role model for us,” he said. Without naming anyone, Gadkari said it was very unfortunate that chapters on Dr. Hedgwar and Savarkar had been removed from the school’s curriculum, and “there is nothing quite as painful as this”.

The Karnataka state Congress government recently launched a row by removing chapters on Savarkar and Hedgewar from textbooks.

Gadkari recalled that when he criticized a nationalist leader who had good relations with Savarkar, he told the leader that no one should criticize Savarkar without knowing about him.

Gadkari said the leader was convinced and said he would not comment on Savarkar from now on.

The BJP leader said Indian and Hindu culture promoted by Savarkar and Swami Vivekananda are the same, adding that the younger generation should be made aware of their ideology as well as the sacrifices Savarkar made for the country.
