Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said on Sunday that the diarrhea outbreak in Dirimajra village in Lalru was under control as no new cases had been reported since Saturday afternoon.

She said a total of 65 cases were reported in the past three days along with the death of two infants (one of three months and the other of a year and a half) and it is part of the medical investigation into whether the death was due to diarrheal disease. . Among the 65 infected cases, all cases are stable and are in the recovery stage except for one case, which is undergoing inpatient treatment at Dera Basi Hospital.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and the medical teams have been given the task of avoiding any further reprimand for the disease,” she added.

She said the water source (pipe) report was tested and the chemical composition was found to be correct while the consumers report was still pending, but as a precautionary measure, drinking water is being provided through tankers. Even the water supply pipeline has been checked and no leaks have been found. Besides, some consumers whose private connections were suspected of having a leak were disconnected.

Briefing on the preventive measures, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Himanshu Gupta said the medical teams had completed three rounds of house-to-house surveys for a total of 186 households. Likewise, there has been a medical camp for the past three days in the village. Oral rehydration salts are distributed and medical awareness spreads among the people.

The capital appealed to residents to drink boiled and cooled water for prevention and to consult a doctor immediately in the event of symptoms of loose movement and vomiting.

Civil Surgeon, Dr Mahesh Kumar Ahuja said medical teams under Dr Dharminder Kumar, Dera Bassi SMO and Dr Naveen Kaushik, Lalru SMO are already working to contain the disease. He said in case of any emergency or medical need, 104 should be called as well. He also visited the affected area.
