Prime Minister Modi will also attend a lunch hosted at the State Department by US Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken on June 23. In addition to official engagements, the Prime Minister is scheduled to have numerous coordinated interactions with senior executives, professionals, and other stakeholders. He will also meet members of the Indian diaspora.
Meanwhile, amid Prime Minister Modi’s long-awaited US tour, (UBT) President Udhav Thackeray on Sunday criticized the prime minister and questioned why he had gone abroad instead of visiting Manipur to resolve the crisis in the violence-hit northeastern state. Addressing a statewide conference of his party, the first since the insurgency defected from the Shiv Sena last year, he also dared the BJP-led central government to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the country. “A part of our country is in the grip of violence, and Modi has not gone there or taken steps to solve the crisis, but he is going to America,” Thackeray said.
Why is the visit important?
The relationship between Modi and Biden has been defined by close association, frank exchanges, mutual respect, admiration and private gestures. This visit is also marked by special gestures from President Biden to Prime Minister Modi.
President Biden hosts the Prime Minister at a state dinner. There will also be a bilateral meeting with President Biden. But Biden and his family go out of the way, doing more than just the formalities and extending a touch of personal warmth to be with the prime minister on multiple occasions.
President Biden and First Lady host Prime Minister Modi for a private dinner and conversation the day before the state dinner.
The First Lady will also accompany Prime Minister Modi to a skills event. President Biden and the Prime Minister will be together at the technology event.
Over the past decade, the two leaders have grown closer, with mutual trust and admiration cementing their bond. This was shown through various gestures on several important occasions.
