Officials said seven people died in rain-related accidents and relief forces rescued 265 people after torrential rain caused by a depression, a remnant of Cyclone Pebarjoy, that battered parts of Rajasthan over the past two days.

They said that Chief Minister Ashok Jehlot has canceled his visit to Bundi, Kota, Jalwar and Dosa scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday and will instead head to rain-hit areas.

Gelot is scheduled to visit Barmer, Sirohi and Jalore districts on Tuesday and Bali and Jodhpur districts on Wednesday.

Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Bissi Kishan said seven deaths occurred in rain-related incidents in the past two days.

The official said that the districts of Jalore, Sirohi, Bali and Barmer are the most affected and are facing flood-like situations.

He said personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had rescued 133 people, State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) had rescued 123 and the military had rescued nine people from different places in these areas in the past two days.

“Nearly 15,000 people have been moved to safer places from low-lying areas,” Kishan added.

He said that according to the initial assessment, nearly 8,700 kacha houses were damaged, 8,500 electric poles were uprooted, 2,000 transformers were damaged and 225 government school buildings were partially damaged.

According to the Meteorological Department, Shivganj in Sirohi recorded 35 cm of rain till Monday morning from Sunday, Nagarfort in Tonk 31 cm, Deogharh in Rajsamnd 27 cm, Kampalgarh in Rajsmund 25 cm, Amat in Rajsmund 24 cm, Rajsmand 22 cm and Ajmer 16. cm.

It added that Ajmer recorded the highest level of rainfall of 100.5 mm on Monday.

There is no red alert for any area for Tuesday, but very heavy rains may fall in isolated areas in Sawamadupur, Baran and Kota districts and heavy rains in Bundi, Tonk, Jalwar and Karoli districts, according to the Meteorological Bureau.
