Of course, there will undoubtedly be a learning curve for Wembanyama. Currently, it is the unanimous number one draft pick in the top basketball league in France, but this is not one of the first European leagues.
As such, we should expect Wimpanyama to have a period of stability when he enters the NBA.
After all, his physique, athleticism, and skill level would be far superior to what he has encountered in his career up to this point. Victor Wimpanyama is set to miss the Summer League
According to Spurs Talk’s TJ Ellis, Victor Wimpanyama will not be making his San Antonio Spurs Summer League debut.
“As of now, Tottenham expect Wimpanyama to sit out the Summer League games,” Ellis wrote. He may train with the team but San Antonio wants him to rest after running deep for the Metropolitans 92 in the postseason.
“In addition, Wimpanyama wants to play for the French national team this summer – and that makes it all the more urgent for him to rest as much as possible during the month of July.”
With Victor Wimpanyama absent from the Summer League, teams will have to wait until the start of the season to collect film of his performance against NBA talent. However, when you’re 7-foot-2 with a textured grip, three-level scoring ability, and solid edge protection, scouting reports will only get opponents so far.
Wimpanyama is highly anticipated as the league has never seen such a versatile player of his size and skill set. As such, it’s hard to imagine him not being the generational talent many of us were told he would be.
