Udhna Railway Station, located in the birthplace of Minister of State for Railways Darshna Gardush, is undergoing a major transformation as Western Railways aims to develop it into a distinctive railway station.

“Transforming the Udhna Railway Station with state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities will have a multiplier effect on the economy, creating new employment opportunities. The layout of the station is designed to become a vital meeting point and represent the ‘New Railways in the New India’.”

The project aims to stand out for its international appeal in terms of architecture and management,” said an official of Western Railways.

The redevelopment of Udhna Railway Station into a modern state of the art facility has been approved at a cost of Rs 223.6 crore and is expected to be completed within 24 months. Work is progressing rapidly, with the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contract awarded.

Sumit Thakur, Western Railway’s chief public relations officer, said in a statement that site surveys, geotechnical investigations and soil testing have already been completed.

“The RPF’s existing quarters on the west side have been dismantled, and new quarters are being built. Ground floor slab work is complete, roof slab work is in progress. Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters have been moved, and a new Passenger Reservation System is in operation. Construction work is in progress,” the statement added. The ground floor of columns, slabs and stairs as well as the raising of the walls of the East Side Station building are in progress.”

The project involves the development of new station buildings on the east and west sides of the railway station, which will be integrated and linked by FOBs (pedestrian bridges) and an airfield over the tracks and platforms, enhancing connectivity.

Udhna is strategically located near major urban centers of Gujarat, including Surat, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, and Gandhinagar. The station has excellent train connectivity with major cities and towns in Gujarat and different parts of the country. This modernization and transformation will provide the much needed impetus to trade and commerce,” the official added.
