The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to moderate rain in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from Tuesday (June 20) to Sunday (June 25).

According to the Regional Meteorological Center (RMC), ChennaiHeavy rains are likely in isolated places in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupator, Vellore, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai districts on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Chennai and adjoining areas are likely to receive light to moderate rains with thunderstorms and lightning in the next 48 hours.

According to the latest bulletin by RMC Chennai, the cyclonic circulation over the southwest and adjacent Westcentral Bay of Bengal off the coast of Tamil Nadu is now over the southwest and the Westcentral Bay of Bengal off the coast of Andhra Pradesh between 0.9 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting Southwest with elevation.

“Yesterday’s basin now extends from the above cyclonic cycle to the Lakshadweep district, adjacent to the island’s southeast sea across Tamil Nadu and Kerala, at an altitude of 3.1 km above sea level,” the bulletin said.

On Wednesday, light to moderate rain is likely in a few places over northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karikal district and in isolated places over southern Tamil Nadu with thunderstorms and lightning in one or two places.

From Thursday to Saturday, light to moderate rain is likely in one or two places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karikal region.
