The National Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday alleged that Mumbai police detained its workers to prevent them from agitating against the state government by celebrating “Kadruddin (Traitor’s Day)” even as the Shiv Sena (UBT) said 15 workers had been arrested.
Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray has claimed that “democracy is being killed” in the state every day. “Our youth wing chief Mehboob Sheikh and other workers have been arrested by the police and kept in the police station for a whole day to prevent them from arousing anger. In a democracy, every individual and political party has the right to protest but the current state government seems serious in denying this basic right,” said the state party chief. Jayant Patel National Congress.
Supriya Soli, the National Working Chair of the National Congress Party, questioned whether the country was still a democracy. We will protest today on the occasion of Traitors Day. Let the police come and arrest us. “We’re ready for that,” Sully said.
On June 20 last year, the current Chief Minister Eknath Shinde along with a few MLAs went to Surat, marking the beginning of the rebellion within the Shiv Sena. NCP workers marked the day by demonstrating in the streets on Tuesday, which the police objected to.
A senior police officer of the Mumbai Police said around 15 Sina UBT workers were arrested at Azad Maidan and LT Marg police stations as a precautionary measure. “They were brought to the police station for some time and after that they were allowed to go. We did this to avoid problems with law and order in the city,” the officer said.
Criticizing the government led by Eknath Shind, Aditya tweeted, “The world is watching democracy being killed in Maharashtra every day. Police are being used today to detain Shiv Sena office staff from their homes and offices, just because the leader of the Kadar gang (traitor) fears People will witness political protests against his shameful betrayal. Is political protest prohibited in Maharashtra?”.
Sena UBT President Uddhav Thackeray said on Monday that June 20 should be considered as the “Global Traitors Day”. Party leader Sanjay Raut also sent a letter to the United Nations asking for the day to be recognized as the “International Traitors Day”.
Meanwhile, Sena workers led by CM Shinde celebrated in various locations marking the day as “Self-Respect” day. When asked why the Congress did not participate in the protest, Patel said that it was an NCP event. The protest was organized by the National Congress Party. No one should draw conclusions about the absence of Congress.
Nana Patol, chairperson of the Maharashtra State Congress, also said his party was not invited to the protest because it was held by the NCP alone. When there is a common business, we will definitely join it. “We did not report a protest today,” he said.
Patul said the Supreme Court’s decision proved that the current government is unconstitutional. We are concerned about national issues such as violence in Manipur, price hikes, and corruption of the state and central government. Monsoons are delayed and farmers may face losses. Patul said the party will continue to highlight these issues.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Naitesh Rani demanded that 27 July – Udhav’s birthday – be declared “Traitor’s Day”.
Nitesh Rani, the youngest son of Union Minister Narayan Rani, wrote on Twitter: “Please declare 27th July as ‘Traitor’s Day’. On this day one of the biggest traitors of all time was born. His father was stabbed in the back who was one of the The greatest figures in the history of Maharashtra as well as India. He stabbed Dinh, a close friend like the BJP for his dirty ambitions to become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra…”
BJP sources said, “It was Thackeray’s party that attacked first. They demanded June 20 as Kadaruddin (traitor’s day). BJP believes that Shinde with 40 rebels and 10 independents left because they did not want to be associated with Congress and the party National Congress. They didn’t want to compromise on ideology.”
