In just nine days after the introduction of the Shakti scheme, which allows passengers to travel for free on Karnataka state buses, more than 4.24 crore women have availed of the services and on Monday, the total amount of ticket exempted under the scheme crossed 100 crore.
The scheme, launched on June 11, saw a staggering 4,24,60,089 women passengers travel in buses operated by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and North West Karnataka Transport Corporation. wild. (NWKRTC) and Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC).
On Monday, the four sections saw a record flow of passengers since the plan was launched. A total of 60,89,910 women passengers traveled for free and tickets worth Rs 15,94,32,747 were issued.
Of the four departments, BMTC recorded the highest number of female passengers over a nine-day period, with 1,44,06,090 female passengers. It was followed by KSRTC Center with 1,23,07,847 riders, NWKRTC with 1,02,53,506 riders and KKRTC with 54,92,646 riders.
Free tickets issued by KSRTC were worth Rs 38.25 crore while BMTC, NWKRTC and KKRTC issued tickets worth Rs 17.61 crore, Rs 26.07 crore and Rs 18.28 crore respectively.
Over the nine days, the average daily fall of female passengers on buses across the four sections was 38.60 lakh.
According to the finance department, the scheme will cost the treasury around Rs 4,000 crore. The state government has reserved 50 percent of the seats for men on KSRTC buses and has canceled all kinds of bookings on BMTC buses.
