A video showing a woman lawmaker from Thane district in Maharashtra slapping a civil engineer in full view of the public went viral on social media.
The video shows Mera Bhayander MLA Gita Jain mistreating engineers from Mera Bhayander Municipal Corporation for bulldozing some buildings which kept occupants, including children, on the roads ahead of the monsoons.
Jain questioned how the engineers could demolish the structures and asked them to issue a Government Resolution (GR).
Jane could not be reached for comment.
A text message seeking a reaction from MBMC Commissioner Dilip Dale elicited no response.
Jain, a former BJP mayor, won the 2019 elections as an independent.
She supports the government of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena.
