A suspected member of the Bishnoi gang was arrested on Wednesday after alcoholic beverages worth Rs 24.34 lakh were seized from the Vadodara bypass on National Highway 48. The arrest was made after a container truck traveling from Nashik in Maharashtra to Ahmedabad was intercepted on Highway, Vadodara police said.

Acting on a tip off, officials of Vadodara City Police Crime Prevention Branch on Wednesday stopped the container truck driven by Dinesh Bishnoi, a native of Rohilapurav village in Duriman Taluka, Barmer district of Rajasthan. After his arrest, the Anti-Terrorism Bureau registered a crime against two others wanted in the case – Mohit, a resident of Barmer, and Ashok Poonamram Bishnoi from Sanchore district in Rajasthan. Mohit allegedly sent the container from Nashik, and instructed Dinesh to deliver the liquor to Ahmedabad.

Police said other members of the gang – Naresh Bishnoi and Raghuram Bishnoi – were also complicit in the illegal transport of alcoholic beverages between countries.
