The complaint said that the “false” statement made by the secretary of the ruling party brought shame to the entire Congress and amounted to inciting riots against the party.

The opposition Congress of Kerala on Wednesday filed a complaint with DGP Anil Kant seeking action against CPI(M) Minister of State MV Govindan for his recent remarks against KPCC Chairman K Sudhakaran in connection with the POCSO case involving controversial antiques dealer Monsoon Mavunkal.

The complaint states that the “false” statement made by the secretary of the ruling party brought shame to the entire Congress and amounted to inciting riots against the party.

The petition was submitted by the general secretary of the foundation, Tu Radhakrishnan.

The complaint states that the accused has committed offenses under various sections of Indian Penal Code including 153(a) (enmity promotion), 499 and 500 (defamation) and under sections of Kerala Police Act and should therefore be punished.

The petition noted that the controversial statement was widely shared across social media as well.

KPC General Secretaries Subodhan, JS Babu and Prime Minister Nias Radhakrishnan were also accompanied during the filing of the complaint.

Citing a report that appeared in CPI(M) spokeswoman “Deshabhimani”, Govindan said that the victim had told the Crime Branch that Sudhakaran was present at one of the locations where Mavunkal was raped.

In a setback for the ruling party, the Kerala State Police’s crime branch ward said on Sunday that the survivor of the rape case, in which Mavonkal was sentenced to life imprisonment, had not made any statement referring to Sudhakaran.
