“Is that the new Newcastle lineup”, “Starting again after dropping a stinker”

Brazil faces Senegal in a friendly match on Tuesday (20 June). Fans are wondering about Silicao’s starting line-up after Newcastle United’s selection.

The South American side beat Guinea 4-1 on Saturday night and will be looking to continue their victories over Leones de la Teranga. Ramon Menezes named the team that will face the African nation at the José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon.

UEFA Champions League winner Ederson starts with goal scoring, with Danilo, Eder Militao, Marquinhos and Ayrton leading the charge. Meanwhile, Premier League trio Lucas Paqueta, Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton will start in midfield. Malcolm and Vinicius Jr. join Richarlison in attack.

However, fans aren’t too happy to see Richarlison start to watch his display against Guinea. The Tottenham Hotspur striker failed to win. He also had only two shots, only one on goal.

The Tottenham striker has struggled in the recently concluded season following a £60m move from Everton. He has not scored a single goal in the Premier League.

However, Richarlison is doing much better for Brazil, which was the case in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He scored three goals in four matches, including the championship goal.

However, one fan is not particularly impressed by his inclusion in the starting line-up, tweeting:

Is this Newcastle’s new midfield line-up?

Another fan wondered if Selecao would become the new Newcastle United because of their midfield:

Richarlison starts again after dropping foul.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Menezes’ selection to face Senegal:

Newcastle are said to be looking to advance contract talks with midfielder Guimarães. The Brazilian has been a mainstay in Eddie Howe’s side since his arrival in January 2022. He scored five goals and provided numerous assists in 40 appearances across competitions in the 2022-23 season.

The 25-year-old has been a fixture in the Magpies’ UEFA Champions League qualifiers. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle see Guimarães as an indisputable asset.

They are said to have already held talks about extending the Brazilian national team. His deal at St James’ Park expires in 2026, and Howe’s team is keen to convince him to extend his stay.

This is despite reports claiming Newcastle are willing to use the midfielder in a deal to sign Barcelona winger Rafinha. These reports may be far from reality, given how the Premier League club view the 11-capped Brazilian.
