Kirk Herbstreit is considered one of the most prominent voices in college football. His son Zach Herbstreit followed in his footsteps by joining the Ohio State Buckeyes.
However, the younger Herbstreit was taken to hospital and is in stable condition. It’s not clear why he was hospitalized, but the ESPN College GameDay host shared an update on his son’s condition, tweeting:
“My son Zack is in the hospital and he wanted me to send this message. I just wanted to add how much we appreciate the many people who are reaching out concerned about his well-being. He has a long journey ahead of him.

“I’ve had a bit of a setback in the last couple of weeks. I’m not feeling well. It culminated in test results last Friday that forced me into the hospital. I have some of the best cardiologists looking after me, and I don’t appreciate it. We run a number of tests and put “A plan to make sure I’ll be able to feel normal again. I really appreciate the tremendous support over the past couple of days. I feel really good and hope to be out of the hospital soon.”
Herbstreit sent out another message thanking fans for their prayers:
“He’s up and on his phone from time to time. If you’d like to message him, he’s on ZHerbstreit again. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers for Zack.”

While the exact reason for his son’s hospitalization remains unclear, his referral to cardiologists suggests they may be dealing with a heart problem. It also remains unclear when Zach was taken to the hospital.

Zach Herbstreet chose to follow in his father Kirk Herbstreet’s footsteps when he joined the Ohio State Buckeyes. The younger Herbstreit was unranked in the 2021 recruiting class despite scholarship offers from other programs. The tight end was dating his freshman season and didn’t see the field in 2022 either.
He has served as an important member of the Buckeyes scouting team. It is unclear if Herbstreit Jr. He was due to finally see the field this season, however, his hospitalization could delay his collegiate debut.
Ohio State currently lists nine tight ends, including Zach Herbstreet. Cade Stover, the program’s top tight end from 2022, is set to retake his role atop the depth chart. It’s not clear when, or if, Zach will rejoin the Buckeyes.
