Manchester United have reportedly told Scott McTominay that he is free to leave the club this summer.

According to talkSPORT, the Scotland midfielder has been told he could leave after battling for game time in the recently concluded season. The 26-year-old started the campaign as a starter under Erik ten Hag.

However, McTominay was soon replaced alongside Ten Hag by Casemiro after his arrival from Real Madrid last summer. The Scot has started 10 of 24 league matches, scoring once.

Manchester United could look to use McTominay in a deal to lure Arsenal target Declan Rice to Old Trafford. Reports claim that the Red Devils are preparing a player-plus financial offer for the West Ham United captain.

McTominay would head in the opposite direction and join David Moyes, who is said to be a fan of the midfielder. He has been at Old Trafford his entire career, rising through the ranks before making his debut in 2017.

Jose Mourinho gave the former Manchester United manager his Scottish debut. Since then, he has made 209 appearances, scoring 19 goals and providing five assists. Mourinho was one of several Red Devils managers who stuck by McTominay despite fans’ frustration with his place in the team.

Famed former manager Sir Alex Ferguson was behind McTominay’s signing when he was young and asked him to follow in the footsteps of former midfielder Darren Fletcher (via United Zone) in 2021:

“I signed him when he was seven or eight. He was actually a medium forward when he was young. He grew up like Darren (Fletcher) when he arrived. All the qualities that Darren had, McTominay has, too.”

However, McTominay appears set to leave his boyhood club as Ten Hag looks to make amends to his squad. He has two years left on his contract at Old Trafford.

McTominay’s longtime midfield partner Fred could leave Manchester United this summer.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Fulham are interested in signing the Brazilian and that the Red Devils could be willing to sell around £20m. The 30-year-old has a year left on his contract.

Fred made a similar trip at Old Trafford to McTominay in regards to how fans viewed him. He was part of the United side that struggled in the wake of Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

The Brazil international joined the Red Devils from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018 for £54m, but has failed to live up to that price tag. Fred impressed under ten Hag last season, scoring six goals and providing as many assists in 56 appearances across competitions.

It was the midfielder’s best comeback of his United career, but with only a year left on his contract, it appears his club are poised to capitalize on him.
