Neeraj Chopra’s participation in Lausanne leg of Diamond League confirmed

Olympic javelin throwing champion Neeraj Chopra, who has been recovering from a muscle strain, will return for the sixth stage of the Diamond League in Lausanne on June 30.

In the list released by the organizers of the prestigious athletics meet, the name of the world number one Indian in the javelin event has been entered.

Along with Chopra, the names of top Indian athletes Jeswin Aldrin and Srishankar in the long jump are also entered.

The competition’s official website recently stated: “In the javelin throw, Indian Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra will be challenged by Czech Jakub Vadelich and German Julian Weber.”

Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Chopra announced on Twitter last month that he had suffered a muscle strain while training and, as a precaution, had pulled out of the FBK Games in the Netherlands (June 4) and the meet Paavo Nurmi in Finland. (June 13).

The 25-year-old also missed the recently concluded National Interstate Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar.

He also has a tournament scheduled at Golden Spike Ostrava in the Czech Republic on June 27th.

The 25-year-old won the Doha Diamond League on May 5 with a throw of 88.67 metres, making a perfect start to the season.

There is also the World Championships (August 19-27) in Budapest, Hungary, which is the main event this year, along with the Diamond League Finals and the Asian Games.

With a gold medal in Tokyo in 2021, Chopra made history by becoming the first Indian to win an individual Olympic medal in athletics.
