A look at the dignitaries who will join Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the United Nations Headquarters in the US
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi leads a unique yoga session on Wednesday in a historic ceremony to mark the 9th International Day of Yoga (June 21) at the United Nations Headquarters, senior officials, envoys and eminent personalities from more than 180 countries will join him.
The ceremony will be attended by personalities and influencers from all walks of life, including diplomats, officials, academics, health professionals, technocrats, industry leaders, media personalities, artists, spiritual leaders, yogis, and more.
A look at the eminent personalities who will be joining PM Modi:
- His Excellency Mr. Kasaba Korosi: Hungarian diplomat who is currently the President of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
- Eric Adams: An American politician and former police officer, he served as the 110th Mayor of New York City.
- Her Excellency Amina J. Mohammed: Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group.
- Richard Gere: Famous Hollywood actor. He is a defender of human rights in Tibet. He is a co-founder of Tibet Home USA and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Tibet Campaign.
- Vala Afshar: He is the Senior Digital Evangelist at Salesforce, and shares motivational/immigrant successes/technology stories in the community.
- Jay Shetty: Award-winning storyteller, podcaster, and ex-monk.
- Vikas Khanna: award-winning Indian chef and restaurateur; Presenter of MasterChef India TV show.
- Mike Hayes: Chief Operating Officer, VM Ware (cloud computing technology major) based in Silicon Valley. He is a highly decorated former US Navy captain, served as a White House Fellow, and Director of the National Security Council.
- Brett Kelly Slabinski: A highly decorated US Navy SEAL, he has received many of the most prestigious military awards for his services in Afghanistan and Iraq. Currently, Consultant at LeadWright Enterprise.
- Francisco D’Souza: Founder and CEO, Recognition (Private Equity). son of IFS officer PP D’Souza; Former CEO of Cognizant, he now runs a venture capital fund in the US.
- Colin Saidman Yee: A famous yoga teacher. The New York Times called her the “First Lady of Yoga.”
- Rodney Yee: A famous yoga instructor, he is currently actively involved in integrating yoga with the Western medical model. He has written two books, Yoga: Poetry of the Body and Moving Towards Balance: 8 Weeks of Yoga with Rodney Yee.
- Dementia dementia: She runs a popular yoga studio in New York City. She combines yoga and theatre.
- Christopher Tompkins: He is a researcher in South and Southeast Asian studies at the University of Berkeley, California, with a focus on the roots and evolution of yoga in the Tantrik aivism tradition.
- Victoria Gibbs: A famous yoga teacher and meditation instructor. She is a three-time New York Yoga Regional Champion.
- Jahnawi Harrison: Also known by her soul name, Jahnavi Jivana Dasi, she is a British musician. It is famous for its mantra (kirtan) meditation music. She appears regularly as a presenter on BBC Radio.
- Kenneth Lee: Community Health Chaplain at University Hospital, Newark, New Jersey. He is the husband of Jhinawi Harrison.
- Travis Mills: Travis Mills is a war veteran who lost all four limbs in Afghanistan. Promotes yoga, meditation, and wellness to overcome adversity.
- Jeffrey DeLong: Professor of Religion and Asian Studies at Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
- Seema Modi: She is currently the global markets correspondent for CNBC with a focus on foreign policy and Wall Street.
- Zen Asher: CNN’s Prime Time news anchor best known for the global news show ‘One World with Zain Asher’.
- Ricky Kay: Three-time Grammy Award-nominated, three-time Grammy Award-winning Indian music composer and environmental advocate.
- Falguni Shah: An American singer whose music blends classic Indian melodies with contemporary Western sounds.
- Mary Melpin: American singer and actress.
