More than 1.25 thousand people attended the International Day of Yoga event in Surat on Wednesday morning, setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people for a yoga session at one location. The session was held in the presence of Guinness World Records officials.
Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel, State BJP President C.R. Patel, Minister of State for Home Affairs Harsh Sanghavi, Minister of State for Forest and Environment Mukesh Patel, Mayor of Surat Himali Bojwala and several MLAs and municipal councilors participated in the yoga event held at Junction. Y in Vesu in Surat.
In the past few days, the Surat Municipal Corporation, Police Department and District Administration have worked hard with many individuals to make the International Yoga Day Surat event a historic event.
People started flocking to the city of Surat at five in the morning to attend the event. The organizers have divided them into 125 blocks, each containing 1,000 participants, along a 12 km stretch of main road starting from Vesu to the ONGC circuit and through the Y-junction, which is the center of the stretch.
C.R. Patel said, “We have to learn lessons from Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the physical fitness he achieved through regular yoga practice. Today Surat set a world record. Those who were lucky reached the point at the Y-junction to become a part of the world record. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed the world the importance of yoga, it is a tool to keep us mentally and physically fit. There are no side effects of yoga. More than 176 countries have adopted International Yoga Day.”
Prime Minister Bhupendra Patel said, “The sages Yogacharya and Rishi Monis have shown us how to lead a healthy and stress-free life through daily yoga practice. During the Covid pandemic, we have witnessed yoga as an important tool like Sanjeevani. Today the world has accepted the rich culture of India through the practice of yoga in International Yoga Day.
He added, “1.25 crore people are celebrating International Yoga Day at 72,000 locations in Gujarat. This year, the theme for our Yoga Day is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (The World is One Family). The meaning of yoga is connection and connection. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, We have upgraded and formed Yog Board in Gujarat and are providing job opportunities to 5,000 people across the state. They are imparting free training to people in different places in Gujarat. We are also planning to start 21 yoga studios.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a three-day tour of the United States, virtually addressed the crowd and said, “Today, at 5.30 pm Indian Standard Time, delegates from 180 countries will practice yoga at the United Nations Headquarters, making it a historic event.”
Prime Minister Modi said, “International Yoga Day celebrated on 21st June is a global platform to raise awareness about the various benefits of practicing Yoga. When the Yoga Day proposal reached the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, a record number of countries supported it. Since Then until now, the International Day of Yoga has been celebrated on June 21 all over the world.”
He added, “This year, the theme of the India-led G-20 summit is ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future.’ Those who have associated themselves with yoga in the past few years may have experienced the power of yoga. We (India) have always nurtured the connection, implementation and acceptance of traditions. For as long as We welcomed new ideas.We should portray and give the world an example of ‘Ek Bharat Shrisht Bharat’.
