Officials said that five main priorities for the tourism path of the G20, including green tourism, digitization and destination management, were endorsed by all the countries of the group to achieve sustainable, resilient and inclusive growth in this sector.
A roadmap and action plan for Goa and a ministerial outcome document were released at the end of the G20 ministerial meeting here Wednesday. The meeting was preceded by the Tourism Working Group meeting in Panaji.
“G20 Tourism Ministers meeting concludes successfully in Goa. Strong support for the five key interrelated priorities for sustainable, resilient and inclusive tourism,” the Federal Ministry of Tourism later tweeted.
About 130 delegates from countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, South Africa, Russia, Mauritius, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia, Nigeria, Oman, the Netherlands, Bangladesh and major international organizations participated in the ministerial meeting. .
Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the delegates via a recorded video message welcoming him to “Amazing India”.
Official sources said that the members reached broad consensus on the Goa road map and action plan and the ministerial statement.
Union Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy also addressed the delegates before the start of the deliberations. He said, “The G20 delegation welcomed both outcomes of the meeting of the Working Group on Tourism in the G20.”
He later tweeted, “Five key interrelated priorities for the G20 tourism pathway namely green tourism, digitization, destination management, skills and SMEs in tourism have been adopted by all G20 countries to achieve sustainable, resilient and inclusive tourism.” Officials said the meeting took place on the sidelines of the meeting, including with the United States, Brazil, the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia.
“Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Yesu Naik held a bilateral meeting with Brian Bell, Director, National Travel and Tourism Bureau, USA, on the sidelines of the 4th Tourism Working Group Meeting and Ministerial Meeting,” India’s Ministry of Tourism said on Twitter.
They held fruitful discussions on a wide range of topics, including data exchange, investments, and knowledge transfer. She added that the two parties agreed to institutionalize mechanisms to facilitate honing the skills of workers in the field of hospitality.
The Federal Ministry of Tourism said Naik also held a meeting with Eduardo Uziel, Brazil’s ambassador to India, on the sidelines of the tourism working group and ministerial meeting.
The talks focused on strong cultural exchanges that have been instrumental in strengthening relations. The Ambassador congratulated India on its leadership and agreed to cooperate in mutual promotional actions.”
Naik also held a meeting with Michiel Sowers, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, Netherlands.
“The two sides expressed their appreciation for India’s leadership of the G20 presidency and the deliberations that took place during the Goa Tourism Working Group,” the ministry wrote in a tweet on Twitter.
