Ahead of the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Joe Biden, a senior White House official said the India-US partnership would be a “crucial” partnership for the next 10 to 15 years.
John Kirby, the National Security Council’s coordinator for strategic communications, said the issues the two leaders will discuss will be “future-focused.”

The senior US official said India is already exporting security in the Indo-Pacific region and contributing to the Indo-Pacific Quad. He added, “India is a global player and a net source of security and stability, and we look forward to deepening that and seeing that continue to flourish.”
His remarks came as Prime Minister Modi arrived here on Wednesday for the second leg of his first state visit to the US, during which he will hold discussions with Biden and address a joint session of the US Congress.
Modi arrived here from New York where he led a historic event at the United Nations Headquarters earlier in the day to mark the 9th International Day of Yoga, which was attended by UN officials, diplomats and dignitaries.

In his departure statement, Modi said that this “special invitation” from President Biden and the first lady to visit a country is a reflection of the vitality and dynamism of the partnership between democracies.
Modi and Biden have had the opportunity to meet several times since his last official visit to the US in September 2021. “This visit will be an opportunity to enrich the depth and diversity of our partnership,” Modi said.
Modi said his discussions with President Biden and other top US leaders will provide an opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation as well as in multilateral forums such as the G20, Quad and IPEF (Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity).
On Tuesday, Kirby said India matters greatly to US President Joe Biden and the US administration and not just in South Asia but really globally.

In President Biden’s opinion, India is not second-class. India matters enormously to President Biden and to this administration, and not just in South Asia or the Indo-Pacific, but really globally.
“It doesn’t mean that – democracy is hard. We know that. We’ve seen it firsthand here in this country. It’s tough; you have to work at it. And India has a vibrant democracy, and they work at it too. There is no democracy at any time,” he said. From time to time you reach perfection.”
