The Left Front on Wednesday released its manifesto for the 8 July panchayat elections and promised to form a ‘People’s Panchayat’ if its candidates are elected. Left Front President Biman Bose, State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Muhammad Salim and other Left Front leaders issued the statement urging people in rural areas to raise their voices against the ‘anti-people policies’ and rampant ‘corruption’ under the state government led by Mamata Banerjee. .
The party said that under the TMC government, local panchayats became “a platform for ruling party leaders to make money and indulge in corruption”.
The Left Front manifesto also promised a health insurance plan for migrant workers, if its candidates were elected.
Migrant workers face persecution from both the broker and the employer. They work without any security. They don’t get paid on time. We have decided to create a database of migrant workers and introduce a health insurance system for them. Panchayats will stand by migrant workers in times of crisis. If any of them returned to Bengal after quitting their job, the panchayats would have a replacement job ready for them. “We will also launch a portal for migrant workers,” said Peyman Bose, head of the Left Front.
