Domestic stocks opened lower, almost flat, tracking lower in global markets. S&P BSE’s Sensex fell 73.38 points, or 0.12 percent, to 63,449.77 points, while the broader NSE Nifty50 index fell 2.45 points, or 0.01 percent, to 18,854.40.

However, the broader markets defied the trend and were trading mostly in the green, with Nifty Smallcap 100 up 0.47 percent, Nifty Smallcap 50 jumping 0.46 percent and Nifty Smallcap 250 up 0.43 percent.

At the sectoral level, the media index rose by 0.44 percent, the automobile index jumped by 0.20 percent, the Nifty financial services index 25/50 rose by 0.27 percent, and the metals index rose by 0.23 percent. However, the IT index fell by 0.45 percent, followed by the Nifty FMCG index falling by 0.40 percent.

HDFC Life, Tata Steel, Adani Ports, Hindalco, M&M, SBI Life, Eicher Motors, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and HDFC were the top gainers in the opening trading.

On the other hand, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Power Grid, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Hindustan Unilever, Britannia, Wipro and Bharti Airtel were the biggest losers.
