Highlighting the development at J&K following the repeal of Section 370, Federal Home Secretary Amit Shah on Friday urged youth to be part of Utah’s growth journey.
“Jammu and Kashmir is undergoing change. My special appeal to the youth of J&K is to ask them to be a part of this change. Our future does not lie in throwing stones or taking up arms. Our future, he said, is to be part of the progress of J&K and the nation through the purchase of laptops.”
In Kashmir, Shah inaugurated the Vitasta Cultural Festival at the Sher Kashmir International Conference Center (SKICC). Speaking at the event, he said, “Institutes of higher education and industries are established here. Panchayati Raj is established. Many administrative reforms are taking shape without any opposition. Now, Kashmir has to look forward.”
Asking the youth of the valley to become leaders in the country’s development, he said, “I want to tell you that those who put stones and weapons in your hands are not those who wish you well. The government that provides you with laptops, electricity and roads is interested in a better future for you. Change is the need of the hour and you must join.” to this effort.
Shah said that only people familiar with the last 30 to 40 years of Kashmir’s history believe that it is “disputed and turbulent”, however, “the same Kashmir, where more than 40,000 people lost their lives due to terrorism, is moving forward through its cultural heritage”.
Earlier in the day, Shah sounded the trumpet of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections at a rally at Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu on the death anniversary of BJP ideologue Dr Syama Prasad Mukerji. Elections are approaching. On the one hand, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the other.
He urged the public to help the Bharatiya Janata Party win more than 300 seats and re-elect Modi as the next prime minister. Meanwhile, Shah inaugurated projects worth Rs 84 crore, including a hospital in Bakshi Nagar, and laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 309 crore. He also visited Sri Venkateshwara Temple (Tirupati Balaji) before traveling to Kashmir.
He said while looking at the Mahbooba Mufti of the People’s Democratic Party and Omar Abdullah, a member of the National Congress, that 42,000 people were killed due to terrorism and they still want Article 370 back. I want to ask them who is responsible for the death of 42,000 people. Their parties were in power at that time.
Shah said that during the 10-year rule of the UPA government, there were 7,327 terrorist incidents. “In the NDA’s nine-year rule, the number has dropped to 2,350,” he said, adding that this meant there had been a 70 percent decrease in terrorism incidents. “While 2,056 people have been killed in 10 years of the UPA government, 377 lives have been lost in the last nine years,” he said.
Shah said that the Modi government is working towards the complete eradication of militancy at J&K. “Forty-seven months after the repeal of Article 370, there have been only 32 appeals for hurling and appeals. There has been a 90 per cent decrease in stone-throwing incidents. All of this shows that the situation is improving.
The Jammu rally was held on a day that had special significance for the BJP as the party’s ideologue Mukerji died in Srinagar Jail on 23 June 1953, days after he was arrested in Lakhanpur in Jammu for entering without a permit. “Dhokey se arrested kar liya gaya, permit nahi hai keh kar. At the end of his day-long visit, the Home Secretary led a security review ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, with senior officials from J&K Police, Army CRPF and other UT security agencies. Yatra is scheduled to start in July this year.
