Arjan Bhullar is excited to return to competition for two reasons – to prove he’s the true king of the heavyweight division and to take his time fighting to sleep.
The Commonwealth Games gold medalist wrestler unifies her world title against interim champion Anatoly Malykhin on June 23. Their fight will headline the international portion of ONE Friday Fights 22.
His tenure as world heavyweight champion was marred by delays, injuries and contract negotiations.
Despite the turmoil, he’s happy to finally be back in action inside the famous Lumpini Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Ahead of his third promotional appearance, the 37-year-old opened up about his first injury that has collectively sidelined him for over two years.
Arjan Bhullar told MMA Underground:
“Now we were booked, and then I had an injury — my first ever surgery. So I had to sit down, and again, I was OK. I asked the doctors to write it off after surgery. They opted to use a full six months, which they could extend for injuries, and lo and behold Here we are, two years later.”

However, during his time away, Malekin racked up a string of victories and got a shot against Kirill Grishchenko for the interim world heavyweight title at ONE: Bad Blood last year.
He held the 26-pound belt with a crack knockout, and months later, moved down the division to become the World Light Heavyweight Champion.
As such, the Russian Hulk enters this contest as the heavy favourite. But Arjan Bhullar is ready and willing to put an end to the hype train surrounding the Golden Team star.
