Take a dig in The first meeting of the opposition parties To form a joint front against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Patna on Friday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described it as a “Bachao Parivar” meeting.
It is not a front against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “It’s a forum where every leader ensures the survival of his family,” Fadnavis said. I don’t think it’s an opposition front. It should be called “parivar bachao” front. Each leader tries to maintain the connection of his or her family and ensure its survival.”
The meeting of the opposition in Patna is important for the state of Maharashtra as it was represented by two regional parties and their leaders. While the NCP chief, Sharad Pawar, was accompanied by the newly appointed working chiefs of the party Praful Patel and Supriya Soli, the Shiv Sena (UBT) was led by Udhav Thackeray. He was accompanied by his son and party general secretary Aditya Thackeray and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut.
With his vast experience and political career spanning more than five decades, Pawar has given a clear call to all like-minded parties to make the 2024 Lok Sabha elections a common cause.
After the fall of the Maha Vikas Agadi government in Maharashtra following a revolt within the Shiv Sena last June, Thackeray had reached out to regional parties across the country to highlight how the BJP had wronged him and his party. The decision of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to hand over the party’s name and symbol to the prime minister’s faction led by Eknath Shinde came as a blow to Thackeray.
This is the Save the Family coalition.

“The unity of the opposition is necessary right now to defeat the authoritarian rule of the BJP. They are a threat to Indian democracy. It is not about saving my institution. Nobody should worry about this number as long as I have the support of the Sinik fanatics,” Thackeray said.
The NCP, which lost national status two months ago, believes the growth of the BJP in the center and in Maharashtra is a challenge. Its unfulfilled goal of having the first party emerge and having its own chairman in Maharashtra with a strong BJP cannot happen.
As Opposition Leader Ajit Pawar said, “If Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena (UBT) compete under MVI, then we can fight against BJP and Shiv Sena (Shinde faction).”
In Maharashtra, the National Congress Party (NCP) has not gone beyond single digits from its formation in 1999 to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The maximum number of seats won was nine in 2004 and 2009. In 2019, it won five Lok Sabha seats (four in Maharashtra and one in Lakshadweep).
However, Pawar’s stature at the national level remains steadfast due to his experience and relationships with leaders across countries and parties. For the NCP, a united opposition at the center will help its case in Maharashtra in the assembly elections scheduled for next year.
At the Foundation Day event in Mumbai, the party leaders vowed to work towards making the party number one and getting CM. NCP leader Chajan Bhojbal remarked, “With a leader like Pawar we can strive to emerge as the number one party in the state and regain our national standing mark. It’s possible.”
With Pawar and Thackeray actively working to unite the opposition, the BJP leadership in the center and in the state is watching developments closely. In politics, we have to monitor every development. BJP President Chandrashekhar Pawankul said the BJP had neither worried nor intimidated the opposition front.
“The BJP has its own roadmap. We are focused on how we can improve our performance to raise the number from 303 seats to 350 in the Lok Sabha polls. In Maharashtra, we aim to increase 45 seats out of 48 seats in the Lok Sabha.
Commenting on Thackeray’s participation in the Patna meeting, Fadnavis said, “When the BJP was allied with the People’s Defense Forces in Kashmir, Thackeray accused us of collaborating with Mehbooba Mufti. Today, Thackeray is sitting next to Mehbooba Mufti.”
Now, we should be wondering about the double standards and condescension of the Hinduvta. Thackeray kept the Hindutva ideology on the backburner. He added that his concern was the politics of power.
Fadnavis claimed that “the uproar over the opposition meeting shows how desperate each party is to keep family politics relevant”. Such attempts have occurred in the past. In 2014 and 2019…but it had no impact on the BJP.”
On the contrary, in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, under Modi, the BJP will appear with flying colors. People are with Modi and the BJP.
