Several major rivers including the Brahmaputra were flowing above the danger level at various places as the state had been experiencing heavy rains for the past few days.
The flood situation in Assam continued to be grim on Friday with the death toll rising to two and more than 4.88 thousand people suffering from the flood across 16 districts, according to an official bulletin.

Assam Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin said one person was killed in flood waters in Gugrapar in Nalbari district in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to two so far.
In all, 4,88,525 in 16 provinces and three (independent) sub-divisions are currently experiencing the flood, she said.
The number of people affected by the floods reached 4.95 thousand in 16 regions and four (independent) subdivisions on Thursday.
Bagali sub-division remained the most affected with 267,253 people affected, followed by Nalpari with 80,061 people, and Barpetta with 73,233 people.
A total of 35,142 people are now staying in 140 relief camps, while another 75 relief distribution centers are operating.
The department enlisted the help of the state’s disaster response force, local residents, trained volunteers, and civil defense personnel in rescue operations in various areas.
A total of 10,782.80 hectares of farmland have been flooded so far, the ASDMA bulletin said.
A bridge was breached in Biswanath, while damage was reported in other structures from the same sub-division as well as from Darang and Kokrajhar districts.
Reports of damage to roads and bridges were received from several districts, including Pagalli, Baksa, Parpetta, Cachar, Chirang, Darang, Dahmajji, Dabri, Goalpara, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Majuli and Nalbari.
Reports of erosion have been recorded in Baksa, Biswanath, Pungaygaon, Chirang, Dhobri, Kokrajhar, Dibrugarh, Sivsagar, Sontpur, South Salmara, Udalgori and Tamulpur.
The ASDMA report said landslides were also reported from Karimganj.
A Central Water Commission report on Friday evening said that the Brahmaputra River was flowing above the danger level at Nematighat (Jorhat).
It added that the water level in the rivers Puthimari and Pagladia exceeded the red mark in Kamrup and Nalpari, respectively.
The Regional Center of Meteorology here issued a “yellow” alert for Friday, telling people to be on alert and to stay informed of heavy rain and thunderstorms in some parts of the state.
