“Like Chicago, have him play Conor Bedard in the top row, and there’s a lot of protection in the modern era.”
Bissonnette sees the Chicago Blackhawks as an interesting fit for Barbashev. He stressed the value of modern protection, which meant that Bédard’s presence would provide an additional layer of support for Barbashev.
Whitney shared, acknowledging the successful history of the Chicago Blackhawks with three Stanley Cup victories since 2010. He said:
“You’ve got two cups now, so I’ll go anywhere. He gives me the most money, and you know if that’s what you’re looking for.”
Yes, the Blackhawks can be an attractive option. But financial considerations will also play an important role in Barbashev’s decision-making process.
Whitney noted:
“And if Bédard is that far, Chicago will probably be very good for 2-3 years. That’s not a bad call.”
He considered joining a team with a promising prospect like Bédard a wise choice for Barbashev, suggesting it could lead to success. One of the most tempting scenarios in free agency.

According to NHL Trade Rumors, it looks like veteran defenseman Eric Johnson’s 13-year stay with the Colorado Avalanche is nearing an end. Multiple sources indicate that the Avalanche is unlikely to offer him a contract extension. He will likely become a free agent on July 1.
Johnson recorded eight assists in 63 games with the Avalanche last season. He also scored one goal in seven playoff matches. After completing his seven-year, $42 million contract, the 35-year-old Johnson remains a skilled defenseman with valuable experience.
