The Charlotte Hornets selected Brandon Miller second overall in the 2023 NBA draft. Miller, who has been compared to Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers in terms of potential, fits in perfectly with LaMelo Ball in Charlotte.
However, there was controversy surrounding Miller prior to the draft. An Alabama product has also been found to have allegedly provided the gun used in a campus murder.
One of the perpetrators was teammate Darius Miles, who had sent him a text message and requested a gun on the night of the shooting. Miles allegedly left the gun in Miller’s car and asked the potential customer to bring it to him on the night of the shooting.

Ultimately, Brandon Miller did not face charges and was cleared to play for Alabama for the rest of the season. Miller’s testimony during the investigation matched the authorities’ findings, while Darius Miles and co-suspect Michael Davis were lying.
Although he was never charged with anything related to the shooting, some people thought Miller’s involvement was a red flag before the NBA draft. However, the 20-year-old forward was selected second overall by the Charlotte Hornets.
He told reporters during the Draft Combine project that the incident taught him to be more aware of his surroundings.
“The message I gave them is that it’s just a lesson learned,” Miller said. “You always have to be aware of your surroundings and know your surroundings. I feel like the night could have changed my career in less than a heartbeat. So always be aware of your surroundings.”

The Charlotte Hornets had the pick between Scott Henderson and Brandon Miller for the #2 pick in the 2023 NBA draft. Henderson is the best, while Miller is the best in Charlotte.
Henderson plays the same position as Hornets player LaMelo Ball. So it made sense that Charlotte would choose Miller because of his fit in the team. He can be the second choice in attack due to his athleticism and height.
Miller can shoot smaller defenders while he can dribble away larger defenders. He even has above-average handles and can score from the midrange. It’s not a great 3-point shooter, but it can definitely improve.
