Dani Alves is currently imprisoned for sexual assault. This is as a result of an incident that occurred on December 21, 2022.
The full-back, who played for Barcelona, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Seville and others during his career, gave an interview to journalist Maika Navarro. Speaking of his alleged victim, Alves said (via Record Portugal):
“I don’t know if she has a clear conscience and if she sleeps well at night, but I forgive her. I decided to do this interview, the first one I’ve done since I’ve been here (in prison), so that people know what I think. Learn the story based on what I passed him that morning and in that bathroom.”
Dani Alves also said he learned of the complaint against him the next day. When he left the Barcelona nightclub, no one said a word to him, according to the Brazilian. Speaking more about the incident, he said:
“I left, I went home. I took a shower, because my wife was already asleep and I was ashamed that I had been unfaithful. I angrily doused myself and went to sleep in another bed. I went back to Mexico two days later to play. A young woman reported on the media that she had accused me of sexual assault, I called my lawyer, consulted the police and assured me that there was no complaint and that I could travel and leave Spain with complete peace of mind.”
Dani Alves has already defended his bail several times. However, the court denied his request. The judge fears that Alves will flee to Brazil if he is allowed to leave prison on bail.
Speaking about his time in prison, Alves said:
“I appeal to his (the victim’s) conscience. There has never been a single night when I slept well. No one. But I have a clear conscience. I never intentionally hurt anyone. Namely, not that night either.”
Alves’ wife, Joana Sanz, also announced that she had separated from the Brazilian to start a new chapter in her life. With that said, Sanz has shown her support for the player on multiple occasions.
Last time Dani Alves played professionally for UNAM in Liga MX. However, he reportedly participated in prison football while in jail. But he sure looks forward to being a free man again, if that’s possible.
