Austin Kaiser has been carrying the Xander Schauffele bag for several years now. The duo spans more than a decade, starting out on the San Diego State college golf team. Given their healthy relationship, Schauffele’s reliable ring also has some fun stories together.

Kaiser appeared as a guest on the final episode of GOLF’s Subpar Podcast, revealing a drunken story from Schauffele’s freshman year. The caddy, who was seated next to US Open winner Windham Clarke holder John Ellis, said he got drunk just hours before 2016 AT&T PGA Tour golfer Byron Nelson was knocked out. The caddy revealed that he thought he would be “fired” for it. He joked that it was “the lowest point of my life, right there in that moment”.

Speaking on the podcast, ahead of the 2023 US Open, Austin Kaiser said, as quoted by GOLF:

“That was a rough night… that was probably the time I thought I was going to be fired.”

Austin Kaiser’s crazy night without it shovel

Austin Kaiser went on to explain that the incident occurred during Xander Schauffele’s rookie year. The duo was at 2016 AT&T Byron Nelson. The then relatively new player/caddy duo missed the cut, and Kaiser and another caddy decided to head out that night in Dallas. They eventually found a tavern, where bottle service was offered for $300.

he added:

“Next thing you know I drink one-fifth of Gray Goose and end up in a thunderstorm, drenching rain, in a graveyard, doing snow angels.”

Kaiser revealed that he discovered he was in a cemetery after his wife used a tracking app to find his phone.

He said:

“This is at 2:30 a.m. Xander wanted to get up and train at 7 a.m.… I’m literally hugging a black tree, and then, as the good friend he is, Xander said, “Okay, I’ll find him, send me a screenshot of where he is.” in.'”

Schavelli eventually found the Tsar covered in mud. According to the caddy, the golfer took off his shirt and carried him to safety, all before snapping some hilarious photos.

It is noteworthy that the duo became one of the best players in the game in the coming years. They scored several victories together, including an Olympic gold three years ago in Japan.
