As Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, at the White House on Thursday, he had a special gift for the first lady with a Surat connection – Lab-grown “environmentally friendly” diamonds. The 7.5-carat diamond was produced, cut and polished at a company in Surat.
The diamonds are made based on the theme of “75 Years Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav,” confirms Patel, co-convener of the GJEPC (Gems and Jewelery Export Promotion Council) lab-grown diamond conference. That is why the green diamond weighs 7.5 carats. And it takes more than 1.5 months to produce such a diamond through chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technology.”
Explaining why it is environmentally friendly, he shares, “The diamond has been made through wind and solar energy, so it is known as a lab-grown environmentally friendly diamond. Special care has been taken to ensure that the diamond becomes a one-of-a-kind piece. Special cutting and polishing technology.
The diamonds are in category 2-A in terms of purity (the highest molecular purity), which is found in the Kohinoor Diamonds (natural diamonds). These diamonds are rare, and are only found in the Canada and Golconda mines in Madhya Pradesh. He added that it takes about two months of time to complete the full procedures for producing, cutting and polishing these diamonds.
The diamond is said to have been certified by the International Gemological Institute (IGI).
Patel said that the “environmentally friendly” diamond represented the entire diamond industry in Surat. “The diamond represents the entire diamond industry in Surat and India and the industry is proud that it will remain in the White House forever,” he affirms.
“We have been in the lab-grown diamond business for the past five years and produce not only eco-friendly diamonds, but also eco-friendly diamonds. We also have a jewelry unit where these diamonds are set and subsequently exported to the US, UK and the Middle East among countries other.”
