Anticipation surrounding a NASCAR street event, Chicago Street Race, or Grant Park 220 debut continues to grow as the event approaches July 1st and 2nd.

Chicago Race President Julie Geese recently highlighted the biggest hurdle organizers faced in preparing for the event. She shared her vision of evaluating her success in an interview.

One of the main challenges Jolly highlighted was the unique nature of running a NASCAR street race for the first time in Chicago.

Street racing is very different from traditional circuit racing, requiring careful planning and coordination to ensure a smooth and safe event. The logistical complexities of staging a public street race posed major hurdles that the organizers had to overcome.

“This is the first time we’re going to run a street race.”

Furthermore, Jolie emphasized the importance of making fans and the local community aware of the event. The race will take place around the city. Hence, it is crucial that everyone understands access areas, transportation options and any potential disruptions that may occur.

The organizers have worked hard to provide comprehensive information and clear guidelines to make the NASCAR event accessible and enjoyable for all attendees.

“It is for educational purposes, to help everyone understand both locally”

The event has had its fair share of controversies thus far. When asked about how success at the Chicago Street Race would be measured, Julie emphasized the goal of minimizing unrest in and around the community.

“By making sure everyone in Chicago is aware of what’s going on and how to move.”

Making sure that local residents are aware of the event and understand how to navigate the city during the race is of the utmost importance. Likewise, according to Jolly, the organizers aim to create a seamless experience for industry professionals who attend the event.

“The same goes for that experience for our industry when they attend the event.”

Economic metrics such as TV viewership and ticket sales are important indicators of success. However, Jolie also emphasized the importance of highlighting the city’s beauty.

The organizers are confident that the race, from its visual presentation to radio coverage, will effectively capture the essence and splendor of Chicago.

“I feel confident that everything from photos to broadcasts to coverage in general, the beauty of the city will shine through,” said Jolie.

The event not only brings excitement to motorsports fans, but also an opportunity to highlight the city’s charms to a wider audience.
