In an effort to “acquaint students with the civilization and culture of the state”, the Uttar Pradesh government has incorporated biographies of fifty eminent leaders, including V. D. Savarkar, a prominent figure in the Hindu Mahasabha, into the academic curricula of the ninth to twelfth classes of the State Council.
A state government spokesperson said on Friday that this is being done “to acquaint the students of the state with the civilization and culture of the country, following the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath”.
Students will now read about the country’s greatest men, revolutionaries, freedom fighters, social reformers, historians, and great personalities. “Many of them sacrificed their lives for the independence of the country,” said the spokesperson.
Class 9 students will read the life stories of Chandra Shekhar Azad, Birsa Munda, Begum Hazrat Mahal, Veer Kunwar Singh, Eshwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Gautam Buddha, Jyotipa Phule, Chhatrapati Shivaji, V. D. Savarkar, Vinoba Bhave, Srinivasa Ramanshra Chandujan, and Gaj. ..
Class X: Mangal Pandey, Roshan Singh, Sukhdev, Lokmanya Tilak, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Mahatma Gandhi, Khudiram Bose, Swami Vivekananda.
Class 11: Ram Prasad Bismil, Bhagat Singh, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Pandit Dindyal Upadhyay, Mahavir Jain, Bharat Ratna Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, Arvind Ghosh, Raja Rammohan Roy, Sarojini Naidu, Shaja Ramohan Roy, Sarojini Naidu Seshrut and Dr. Homi Jahangir Bhabha.
