The deletion of the words “secular” and “socialist” from the introduction to the constitution printed on the cover of the Telangana class 10th social studies book has sparked controversy. However, the corrected textbooks will only be available in September.

Speaking to News18, Chava Ravi, General Secretary, United Teachers Union of Telangana State, said, “After a few social studies teachers noticed the mistake, we met the Director of SCERT and the Secretary of School Education to file a complaint. They said the mistake was not intentional. Regardless of whether it was Intentional or unintentional, we think it’s a huge mistake.”

There should be more checks and balances before any book is published.”

However, commentators demanded that the books be reprinted because “the two words are the pillars of our constitution.”
