In what is seen as a power struggle within the ruling Congress in Chhattisgarh, state party chief Kumari Silga reversed the decision of his Chhattisgarh chief Mohan Markam to redistribute some key party posts ahead of assembly elections later this year.
Earlier this month, Markham met National Congress President Mallikarjun outside in Delhi. A few days after his visit, on June 16, he edited the flyers of six people in the party. Arun Sisodia, who is said to be close to Markam, was given two positions – General Secretary (Management), as well as General Secretary (Organization). These jobs were earlier handled by Ravi Ghosh and Amarjit Chawla respectively.
Ghosh is asked to go to Bastar division, while Chawla, who is said to be close to Markam, is given charge of Raipur City, State Youth Congress and National Student Union of India. Pratima Chandrakar, who was in charge of Raipur, was pushed to Rajnandgaon as the district administrator, while Yashwardhan Rao, who was from Markam’s home district of Kondagaon, was entrusted with training (party workers).
In the past, Chawla received notice from the Congress party, after which he distanced himself from the 85th plenary session of the party. Phone calls and messages to Chawla, seeking his reaction, went unanswered.
Five days later, on 21 June, Silja issued an order requiring Markham to cancel his order and post Ravi Ghosh as general secretary for administration and management, and demanded that her order be carried out immediately. The order was preceded by a meeting at Prime Minister Bobesh Bagel’s residence, which was attended by senior party leaders, including Markham and Silja.
To date, Markam has not issued any new orders. But speaking to the media, he confirmed that he would obey her great command, Silja. Markham said, “We all respect her and will follow her instructions. The postings were made because we felt the new posts were a good fit for those who were selected. The media portrayed her the wrong way. Ghosh is our first captain from Bastar and I felt he was the best fit there. But everything Selja ji says needs to be done.” with it “.
Insiders said that Selja overruled Markam’s selections because he had not kept her informed about the reshuffle. However, other party sources sympathized with Markham. He is the party leader. He didn’t appoint anyone, hence he didn’t tell Silja G. “He simply edited the posts,” said a source.
Party sources said Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhopesh Baghel wants to replace Markam, because although they are not at war, they have had differences in the past. Soon, a committee will be formed by the party to distribute tickets to the assembly. Markam ji and Baghel ji are among the most important people in the committee that will decide who gets the tickets and which MLAs might lose it this time around. So, Baghel ji wants someone who agrees with his choices. A party source said, if there are multiple options for one constituency, the Central Committee will decide who gets the ticket.
Although Markham’s tenure as state party chairman has ended, party sources said there is no time left for him to replace him, as the election is so close, and a last-minute change in the top job could cause more problems.
The BJP pounced on the debate within the Congress, with its leaders alluding to Baghel while claiming that Markham is being insulted and held hostage by other senior leaders because he is a tribalist. Responding to the allegations, Vikas Vijay Bajaj, spokesperson and coordinator of the Congress Media Cell said, “There are no problems within our party as the BJP claims. They (BJP) should instead focus on their own internal issues and try to save their remaining seats in this election.” year.”
